Anyway ... I couldn't help but grin when I caught wind of the #AskELJames Twitter chat yesterday.
It started like this:
There will be a Twitter Q&A on Monday at 6pm send your questions to #AskELJames 💕💕 #JamieDornan pic.twitter.com/ae6ysyNSFK
— JamieDornanLondon (@JamieDornanLdn) June 23, 2015
But...
E.L James's #AskELJames Twitter Q&A didn't go exactly as planned http://t.co/Gq2C3JgG1y
— Indy Arts (@IndyArts) June 29, 2015
Because she got some questions like this:
What do you dislike more, Independent strong woman or the English language? #AskELJames
— Trevor Donovan (@TrevDon) June 29, 2015
#AskELJames have you considered writing The Trial of Christian Gray given that you portray him as a rapist and abuser?
— Pandamoanium (@Iancoggneato) June 29, 2015
I'm so proud that the #AskELJames hashtag is filled with people demanding she acknowledge and respond to the abuse in these books! Yes!
— Yas Samraoui (@SpringRain88) June 29, 2015
Mighty enjoyable reading the #AskELJames feed; the casual romanticisation of abusive relationships should never be accepted or ignored.
— princess katy (@KatyGilroyBlog) June 29, 2015
My faith in humanity has been temporarily restored with the tweets on #AskELJames So many people realising it's really abuse.
— Kelly Palmer (@TheVeganTaff) June 29, 2015
Why do you continue to refer to what you wrote as a 'love' story? #AskELJames
— 『エヴェリン』╯︵ ┻uʎlǝʌƎ┻ (@ryuuevelyn) June 29, 2015
What inspired you to write such a horrendous book romanticising an abusive relationship? #AskELJames
— Eimear (@TyrionsEmmy) June 28, 2015
are you aware of the abusive messages in your books? The concept that an abusive person can be reformed is a deadly one #AskELJames
— A Cranky Spider (@chromesthesia) June 23, 2015
Do you know how heartbreaking it is to see all the girls my age dreaming of such an unhealthy relationship? #AskELJames
— thank you Mika ❤ (@Katycat_Avenged) June 30, 2015
Which apparently, she didn't answer.
#AskELJames Why aren't you responding to the many people concerned about the abuse your books appear to promote?— Nina (@serifinaxxx) June 29, 2015
Honestly, if E.L. James had risen to the occasion and answered some of these very legitimate questions, I think it would have been awesome, a real publicity coup.
#Disappointed that she did not.
